Effects of kinesiotape versus low-Dye tape on pain and comfort measures in patients with plantar fasciitis: a randomized clinical trial
Key Points
- Kinesiotape and low-Dye tape provided short-term pain reduction in individuals with plantar fasciitis.
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE
Clinical practice guidelines, systematic review evidence and expert opinion support the use of taping for short-term management of plantar heel pain (1,2). In the clinical setting there are many factors that may influence utility of and adherence to taping interventions including perceived comfort and mobility/restriction, but these are rarely reported in research studies.
The aim of this study was to compare the short-term effects of kinesiotape and low-Dye tape on pain and comfort in individuals with plantar fasciitis.
Both kinesiotape and low-Dye tape were effective at providing short-term pain relief over a five-day period.
METHODS
This was a two-arm randomized clinical trial undertaken in a university podiatry clinic. Eligible patients were individuals who presented with clinical symptoms related to plantar fasciitis. Individuals were included if they had (i) pain greater than three out of ten
