BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE

Despite physical activity playing an essential role in reducing risk of morbidity and mortality and improving overall wellbeing, only 9% of older adults perform the recommended physical activity (PA) levels (1). Traditional physical activity interventions are geographically restricted, which is concerning, particularly for those with limited mobility or those who reside in rural areas.

Digital interventions, such as apps, SMS, and wearable trackers, offer a cost-effective solution that can reach a larger audience (2). However, the effectiveness of digital interventions to promote physical activity among older adults is unclear.

The objective of this review was to identify the effectiveness of digital interventions to promote physical activity among older adults.

Only 9% of older adults perform the recommended physical activity levels despite physical activity playing an essential role in reducing risk of morbidity and mortality.
