BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE
The immune system functions in close association with the nervous system in musculoskeletal health and disease. However, gaps in our understanding of how immune cells, neurons and musculoskeletal tissue interact may partly explain why outcomes are not improving.
This objective of this review was to give musculoskeletal clinicians a clear, clinically relevant overview of how the immune and nervous systems interact in musculoskeletal conditions.
