BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE
The prevalence and impact of pelvic floor symptoms in female athletes have been well documented, but artistic athletes and performing artists are not included in those studies. The physical demands for performance may expose them to many factors that may contribute to pelvic floor symptoms. The prevalence of pelvic floor symptoms in dancers, musicians, circus artists, and other people who perform in front of an audience is not currently known.
The two aims of this systematic review with meta-analysis were to determine the prevalence and impact of pelvic floor symptoms in performing artists and artistic athletes.
The prevalence of pelvic floor symptoms in dancers, musicians, circus artists, and other people who perform in front of an audience is not currently known.
Identification of the issues, as well as assistance in finding a treatment path to address those issues, can fill a gap in care that is only beginning to be acknowledged.
METHODS
- The authors of this systematic review were guided by Chapter 5 of The Joanna Briggs Institute and reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Protocols and registered on PROSPERO.
