BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE
Proximal hamstring tendinopathy (PHT) causes localized lower buttock pain that worsens with activities like running, sitting, and squatting. It primarily affects active individuals, particularly those in running or kicking sports.
Treatment options for PHT include load management, progressive exercise rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, and various injection therapies. However, high-quality evidence supporting any particular treatment is limited.
This study compared individualized physiotherapy to shockwave therapy in patients with clinical features of PHT.
Proximal hamstring tendinopathy causes localized lower buttock pain that worsens with activities like running, sitting, and squatting.
This study found that individualized physiotherapy and shockwave therapy produced clinically meaningful but similar outcomes over 12 months.
METHODS
- 100 participants aged 18-65 with at least three months of clinical features of PHT were included in the study. The participants were predominantly female (74%) recreational runners with a mean age of 45 years, with median symptom duration of 54-59
